Alright Y’all, where is Karlie Redd when we need a friendtervention? Earlier this week it was reported that an “Instagram Model” was left stranded in California by non-other than “Mask Off” Rapper Future. The young woman, named Shamartess, made a Facebook post and released text messages between her and the hip-hop artist that referred to her flying out to meet up with him and resulted in him asking her to get sexy, to which she declined. She then goes on to accuse the rapper of leaving her stranded because she turned him down.

If you aren’t familiar with the story here’s a brief synopsis: Shamartess met Future in Miami and hung out with him a few times in the studio. She doesn’t mention spending time with him outside of the studio but does state that they were friendly via text since March. Fast forward to June, and they exchange texts about him being in California and her flying to see him. He told her that if she paid for her flight, he’d reimburse her the cost of the ticket. Future booked her a hotel room at the Loew’s Hollywood for one night, although they discussed her staying for two nights. Future texts Shamartess instructing her to get sexy, she informs him that she just wants to chill. Future then informs her he wouldn’t be coming to see her and did not reimburse her for the cost of her flight (see screenshots below).

Let’s talk about where she went wrong.
First, if you’re paying for your own flight he doesn’t want to see you that bad. Let’s be clear, men are not obligated to cover expenses just like women are not obligated to put out just because a man covered something financially. However, if Future truly wanted to see her and was offering to cover her travel, it’s not that difficult to pay up front. You mean to tell me Future never heard of Cash App? PayPal? You can send money on Facebook now. Waiting until you land to be “reimbursed” should have been a red flag.
Second, we’re talking about Future. Did she think she was flying to Cali for bible study? Again, she was in NO WAY obligated to sleep with him for any reason. However, her pretending to be surprised that he was interested in sex is baffling given his track record. Young ma’am, we are talking about Future who brags about his sexual exploits in his music and is known to have flaky relationships with women (see Ciara, Blacc Chyna and that temporary tattoo, etc.). Girl! Future was trying to have rich sex.
She told Future that she wasn’t on that type of time, and she was well within her right to do so. However, our girl was less than smart in this situation. Honestly, she gave away her level of intelligence when she assumed that Future saying that he’ll pay her back “1000%” meant that he was going to reimburse her ten times her airfare *deep sigh*.
The problem here is the level of expectation on both sides. Ladies and gents, be honest about your expectations from the start. Fellas, if you’re expecting sex, respectfully communicate what you want. Ladies, if you’re not interested in being flown out just for a physical transaction, communicate that before being flown out and make sure you have your own money just in case. This situation would have been avoided if both parties were transparent and honest about their intentions.
In her defense, she was able to secure her hotel room (after being kicked out of Loew’s), and roundtrip flight. However, I’m not sure I would have publicized getting played by Future, that’s quite embarrassing. What part of the game is that? We don’t do IOU’s anymore! Somebody needs to grab our girl and mentor her because this story is extremely humiliating.
Moral of the story: get your money up front sis, because these fellas are hitting us with the “Nice for What” this summer.
